A fishing license is required to fish in Texas public waters for anyone over the age of 17. Anyone under the age of 17 in Texas does not need a fishing license.
A few exceptions exist to this rule. Anyone who was born before January 1, 1931 is not required to have a fishing license. Also, anyone who is 65 years or older can purchase a Senior Resident Fishing License at a discount ($12 compared to $30 for freshwater) to the standard fishing license price.
